Tampa Bay Fishing Report 7/28/13

The hot bite right now is Grouper. The shallow water and the offshore Grouper bites have been good. I have received good reports from friends trolling offshore as well as bottom fishing. The offshore bites have been in 30 to 50 feet of water. Try slow trolling deep diving plugs 25+ at about seven MPH. If you are bottom fishing live Pinfish and Grunts on knocker riggs along with dead squid will do the trick. Fishing for Grouper in the shallow water has also been productive if you know where to go. Palm size Pinfish and Grunts free lined is my preferred technique. My best Redfish bite has come on high water under Mangroves using cut Pinfish. On lower water I have concentrated on Mullet schools around deeper pot holes on the flats. The Trout fishing in the area has been ok this is not the time of year where you find lots of big ones but there are plenty of mid size fish with some bigger ones mixed in. I have not targeted Snook but have caught a few while Red fishing. There are also some Cobia in the bay. Having a rod with a eel type bait ready to cast will be the key to catching them.

So there it is get out and have fun fishing!
